Policy Dividends Ignite a Foreign-Visitor Boom in Jiangxi
Jiangxi Daily went looking for the people who actually handle inbound travellers — and reached our own general manager on a sales trip in Japan. Visa-free entry, plus Nanchang and Jingdezhen inside the 240-hour transit zone, changed the arithmetic of a Jiangxi trip.
In the run-up to Spring Festival 2025, Jiangxi Daily went looking for the people who actually handle inbound travellers, and found most of them abroad. One of them was ours. Xu Xiaoyuan, general manager of Jiangxi HeartEase International Travel, took the reporter’s call from Japan — five days into an eight-day promotional trip through Japan and South Korea. Over the previous year his agency had received about 30,000 inbound visitors.

The background is a visa regime that has loosened faster than most travellers realise. At the time of the report, China applied unilateral visa-free entry to 38 countries: eligible passport holders needed no visa at all — a passport, a booked flight and a plan were enough to enter at any port and stay up to 30 days. What began as a "China Travel" wave through Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen has since spread to second- and third-tier cities, and Jiangxi caught it.

What changed on 17 December 2024
On 17 December 2024 the National Immigration Administration further relaxed transit visa-free entry — and Jiangxi gained two entries on the map. Nanchang and Jingdezhen were both brought inside the 240-hour transit visa-free stay area, and Nanchang Changbei International Airport became an eligible port. In plain terms: travellers from the 54 qualifying countries who transit through Nanchang on their way to a third country can now stay up to ten days in Nanchang and Jingdezhen with no visa at all.
2024年12月17日，國家移民管理局進一步放寬優化外國人過境免簽政策，江西因此在地圖上多了兩個名字。南昌、景德鎮兩市同時納入外國人240小時過境免簽停留區域，南昌昌北國際機場亦納入過境免簽政策適用口岸。說白了：適用該政策的54國旅客，在南昌昌北國際機場中轉前往別國時，無須辦理簽證，就可在南昌和景德鎮最長停留十天。
The two regimes stack, and that is the part worth understanding. Visa-free entry gives 30 days anywhere in the country; transit visa-free gives ten days in a named zone without even a plan to stay. Between them, a traveller has real freedom to shape a route rather than accept one — and, as the report notes, they quietly compensate for Jiangxi’s thin schedule of direct international flights.

Once transit visa-free was widened, stacked on top of visa-free entry, more overseas visitors will stop in Jiangxi. The two together let travellers choose their routes far more flexibly, and make cross-province trips possible.

Where the visitors are actually going
Nanchang Changbei’s passenger traffic climbed steadily through 2024, with visa-free arrivals up 2.8 times. Agencies across the province reported the same shape of demand, with the clearest growth from Malaysia, Thailand and Singapore. Guide Wan Qin told the paper that foreign visitors walking into Jiangxi’s scenic areas tend to say the same thing — that the trip was worth it — and that some of them go live on overseas social platforms to show off the food and the views. One French visitor posted photographs of Wangxian Valley with a line about being lost deep in China and not regretting it; the post drew 79,000 likes.
2024年，南昌昌北國際機場進出港客流量穩步提升，其中免簽入境人員增長2.8倍。省內多家旅行社反映的需求形態相近，其中馬來西亞、泰國、新加坡等國增量最為明顯。導遊萬琴告訴記者，外籍遊客走進江西的風景名勝區，說的話往往差不多——不虛此行；有些人還會在海外社交平台開直播，推介江西美景美食。一名法國遊客在遊玩望仙谷後晒出景區照片，並配上一句「迷失在中國深處，卻並不後悔」，該帖文獲得7.9萬個讚。
The numbers behind that are unusually blunt. Over 2024, Huangling in Wuyuan received 28,000 inbound visitors, up 180% on 2023. Wangxian Valley received 68,000 — up 1,599%. Neither is a household name outside China; both are now, measurably, on the inbound map.
背後的數字直白得少見。2024年一整年，婺源篁嶺接待入境遊客2.8萬人次，比2023年增長180%；望仙谷接待6.8萬人次，增長1599%。這兩處在國外都算不上家喻戶曉，但如今確確實實地上了入境遊的地圖。
What the province put behind it
Jiangxi did not simply wait for the policy to work. The province issued 77 inbound-travel incentive measures and pushed on the practical friction that actually decides whether a visitor has a good day: currency exchange and international card acceptance at large scenic areas including Tengwang Pavilion, Lushan and Sanqingshan, and at designated partner hotels. It launched a "FOLLOW Jiangxi" overseas promotion programme, and joined Fujian to publish a cross-province route — "Through Mountains and Across Seas 240" — that strings the two provinces’ best sites onto one 240-hour transit itinerary.
江西並沒有坐等政策生效。全省發布77項入境遊優惠政策，並着手處理真正決定客人一天好壞的實際障礙：在滕王閣、廬山、三清山等大型旅遊景區和定點服務酒店，提供外幣兑換及國際信用卡刷卡服務。同時實施「FOLLOW江西」海外文旅推廣計劃，並與福建省聯合推出跨省精品旅遊線路「穿山越海240」，把兩省優質旅遊資源串連在同一趟240小時過境行程之內。
At the airport itself, the Nanchang immigration inspection station began running tourism and food promotions in the terminal with the culture and commerce departments, sharing passenger information in advance with airlines and inbound agencies so transit visa-free travellers clear the border faster. And agencies reported the obvious consequence: more inbound groups on the books than the same period a year earlier, with American, British and French travellers expected to be the next wave as awareness of the 240-hour rule spreads.
在機場一端，南昌出入境邊防檢查站聯合文旅、商務等部門在航站樓開展南昌旅遊、美食宣傳推介，與各大航空公司、涉外旅行社加強資訊共享，提前採集錄入過境免簽旅客資料，縮短邊檢手續時間。旅行社反映的結果亦不出意外：手上的入境團數量較去年同期明顯增加；隨着240小時過境免簽的知曉度提升，美國、英國、法國等歐美國家旅客或將成為下一波增量。
