Hong Kong as the gateway to Europe and America

The second point we made to the paper is about geography. There are currently no direct flights from Europe or North America into Jiangxi — and one of the most convenient ways in is to fly to Hong Kong and continue by high-speed rail, which runs direct to Jiangxi. That makes Hong Kong, with its dense long-haul network, a natural hub for opening up the European and American markets — the “transit + high-speed rail direct” route in the paper’s headline.

What the Hong Kong trade is planning

The report’s other voice is Wang Yongfei, chairwoman of Hong Kong Zhonglian International Travel, who has worked Jiangxi routes for over a decade. Jingdezhen and Wuyuan, she says, have long drawn Hong Kong travellers — for many, Jingdezhen sits on the “visit once in a lifetime” list — and with the inscription she expects a clear new wave of growth. Hong Kong agencies are now designing “porcelain capital culture” themed products for the Hong Kong market, and she hopes Jingdezhen will answer with targeted promotion, experience routes and art exchanges — co-developing World Heritage themed products so the city becomes a staple of Hong Kong travellers’ deep-culture trips into the mainland.
